Meet Jamie Kemler

Jamie Kemler is the founder of Intent IP, an intellectual property investment studio focusing on medtech innovations which significantly improve patient outcomes. Jamie recently retired from Stryker where he most recently served as the VP, Intellectual Property Business Strategy with responsibility for the development and execution of Stryker’s enterprise-wide IP business strategy to include monetization activities and relationships with technology transfer and licensing/venture offices of global universities and hospitals. He spent 2019 on temporary assignment in Hong Kong leading business development across Stryker’s Asia Pacific region. Earlier in his career at Stryker Jamie was Group President for the Biotech, Spine, Trauma, and Development divisions, with multiple manufacturing and research operations in Europe and the U.S. Prior to Stryker, Jamie spent 11 years at Baxter in various management roles including over three years in Germany and worked two years for Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine, California at the start of his career.

As a seasoned veteran of the medical device industry, Jamie Kemler brings a wealth of experience having navigated the intricate pathways of innovation, patenting, and commercialization. His desire to assist clinicians with inventive ideas stems from a deep-seated understanding of the transformative impact these innovations can have on patient care and the medical field at large.

Jamie received a BSE in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University in 1979 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1983. In 2012 he became a USPTO registered Patent Agent. He is also a Certified Licensing Professional Emeritus and a Registered Technology Transfer Professional. Since 2017 he has been named to the IAM Strategy 300 – The World’s Leading IP Strategists. Jamie is also active in the Northern Michigan Angels, a Traverse City SCORE mentor and member of the 20Fathoms technology hub. Outside of northern Michigan, Jamie is a member of the Duke Capital Partners, an angel group, and is mentoring entrepreneurs at the Duke Pratt Engineering School and MedTech Innovator Asia Pacific.
